Effect of Two Educational Strategies on Quality of life of woman after Mastectomy

                                                "Cancer of the breast is the most common type of cancer in women and the second most cause of death among women. Client education has become one of the most important roles for nurses in any health care. The study aimed to compare the effect of individualized versus self learning educational strategies on women, quality of life after mastectomy, an intervention design compares between two educational strategies. The study was conducted at two settings, Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Center, and El-Demerdash, Ain Shams University Hospital. A purposive sample of women who had undergoing mastectomy were selected from two settings over period of six months, six different tools were used for data collection, 1st tool record review format, 2nd tool intervening questionnaire format including (socio-demographic data, activities of daily living, women’s knowledge) 3rd tool quality of life assessment scale, 4th tool psychological condition, 5th tool an observation check list to assess the women home environment and 6th tool an observation check list to assess the women’s practice of BSE. The program has proved a significant impact on the management of physical problems after mastectomy among women receiving guidelines of self-learning. Women who were subjected to self-learning teaching showed correct practices of postoperative exercises with better results of arm and shoulder movements than those who had the program on individual bases. Motivation of the post mastectomy women to acquire information needed to attain better self-care and consequently better quality of life. Enpowering community health nurses as a health educator to share in improvement QOL of post mastectomy women was among the study.
