Abstract

This study deals with the topic of nature in the poetry of Alhutaia’a, it treated, in this context, poets’ interests in nature in pre-Islam era and in the Islamic era. The study fins out the specialty that Alhutaia’a characterized by. He lived through paganism, Islam and Omayad’s era, for this reason, he acquired a distinguished experience, especially in poetry of nature that he prominently concerned about. He described the two sections of nature: silent and articulate. He used the images borrowed from the nature to achieve his poetic purposes and themes especially praise and defamation.

The approach of this thesis was based on an initiation and three chapters. The initiation included definition of nature (linguistically and idiomatically), nature in philosophy and literature, nature in the poetry of pre-Islam and Islamic era. At the end, it talked briefly about the poet’s life and poetry.

Chapter one deals with study of silent nature in three themes: what earth, sky and plants is related to.

In chapter two, I talked about articulate nature in three themes: domestic and wild animals, birds, insects and pests.

In chapter three, I talked about the technical study in four themes: technical structure, technical image, language and finally rhythm.

In the conclusion, I talked about the results of research, which manifested that the poet had interests of nature. He described the nature selecting some of its features to add them into his poetic topics such as praise, defamation, elegy, erotic poetry and description. Sights of nature in which he found out substitutes when he was facing psychological impasses in his life impressed him. His impression of nature was obvious in his language, topics and style used in poetic composition.
